Books and stones
6 meters and growing
Litany for a doomed civilization gathers literature focused on the imminent collapse of our civilization due to escalating environmental pressures. The books are placed directly on the floor, forming a single line spanning several meters. Their spines face upward, allowing easy readability from a standing position. The publications are organized chronologically and heavy stones mark the passing of each decade
Comprising hundreds of books in various languages sourced from public libraries, this installation aims to put into perspective a seventy years old stream of thought —a narrative that has gained significant traction amidst today’s backdrop of pandemics, conflicts, climate crises, energy shortages, and food scarcity. Notably, while only around two dozen books were published between 1968 and 2000, the year 2021 alone saw the release of at least fifty publications on this subject. Consequently, the work is meant to grow in dimension in the coming years.
